Rugs
The history of rugs is as long as the Great Silk Road. In the very beginning rugs were meant to defend their owners from severe weather, then they gradually became an object of luxury and even of culture. Rugs harmonically entered day-to-day activities, they became the sponge that absorbed the joys and sorrows of their creators.
Till now there is no definite information about the nation that introduced rugs – Egyptians, Chinese or even Maya. It is also probable that many nations started manufacturing rugs by themselves. One thing that we know for sure is that the art of rugs manufacture reached the top of the art work in the fifth century B.C.
The most ancient rug was found in 1949 in the Pazaryk valley on Altai.
The history of rugs weaving comes back to nomads who built a mobile loom and used the sheep wool. These rugs were an embodiment of the surrounding world and religion. They hang from the huts walls, lay on the ground or floor, were used in the horse riding, or simply as beds, the places to live or pray.
